Schneider Electric Releases CitectHistorian V4.20

Sydney, Australia [December, 2009] - Schneider Electric has just released CitectHistorian V4.20, the latest version of its powerful plant-wide reporting tool that collects, historicises and distributes reporting data. An array of enhancements in this release, including an OPC DA client, Process Analyst and new energy reports, means customers will achieve better connectivity, more effective analysis and improved energy efficiency.

Formerly known as CitectSCADA Reports, CitectHistorian V4.20 is positioned to address critical customer needs as well as offer a cleaner, simpler look-and-feel with ease-of-use.

"The real value of a historian is not what it stores, but how the data is used to drive productivity and efficiencies," according to Stephen Flannigan, Global Director, SCADA. "Escalating legislative responsibilities have translated into increased pressure on organisations to review and optimise operational efficiencies across the board. CitectHistorian V4.20 simplifies this important process by both collecting data directly from a range of devices and providing a selection of pre-configured reports at your fingertips," says Flannigan.

System connectivity and interoperability have been significantly enhanced with the introduction of an OPC DA client that enables simultaneous connectivity to multiple third party SCADA systems, providing a holistic picture of data sources and, in so doing, improving efficiency.

Previously only available in CitectSCADA, Process Analyst, the intuitive visualisation and analysis tool, is now also available with CitectHistorian. It allows for the comparison of historical patterns with a current process disturbance in order to help determine the cause and ultimately improve performance and prevent such upsets in the future.

In keeping with Schneider Electric's vision of achieving more while using fewer resources, CitectHistorian's new out-of-the-box energy reports help customers increase energy efficiency and reduce their carbon footprint. Using the reports, customers can conduct comprehensive energy assessments. The new tag grouping feature introduced in this release gives them the power to directly impact energy minimisation and optimisation and understand the exact nature of their energy costs. As an added bonus, this release lets customers take advantage of all of these new functionalities and review the full historian software on an ongoing, complimentary basis using a set number of tags.

ARC Advisory Group Research Director Craig Resnick acknowledges CitectHistorian's role in helping customers manage their energy, noting that "tools designed to help plants achieve their sustainability initiatives, such as increased energy efficiency and reduced energy consumption and carbon footprint, must provide a plant and corporate ‘single version of the truth.' This requires enterprise-wide energy reporting capabilities. It appears that tools such as CitectHistorian V4.20 are designed to meet these important criteria."

Additional upgrades in this release include a new Time Server that synchronises local time against a list of resources thereby eliminating discrepancies between time stamps and events, as well as support for Microsoft Vista and Windows Server 2008.
